An Expanding Tradition

The Indian head massages was confined to India, until a native Indian called Narendra Mehta traveled to England in 1973 to study physical therapy. The massage spread to other Western countries when he started offering the practices in England and was learned by others. Mehta started expanding to a more holistic massage of the head, neck and shoulder region. As a blind man, he was able to use his heightened sensitivity to be able to identify other areas that was related to the head that would benefit from the massage.

” Well there is one thing to say, that is interesting as heck. Firstly, the practice went back thousands of years, man I wished my mother would have massaged my hair as a toddler… I would have some beautiful hair by now. And secondly, it all started from one guy that was willing to share his tradition to to the world, and in the end turned out to be the most popular massage ever. I was you, I would have gone for a head massage, it sounds absolutely delightful.”
